Main symposia

S4 Epidemiology and genetics 1 :
International collaborations in genetics of diabetes
09:00~11:00 / Friday 7 October
Emerald Hall A, 3F
Chairman:Yu-Bae Ahn, Kyong Soo Park
Overview
Large scale genomic data linked with deep clinical information is advancing our understanding of genetics of diabetes. International collaborative studies using large biobanks, such as UK Biobank, China Kadoorie Biobank, and Korea Biobank Project, are increasing. In this session recent studies on genetics of diabetes and its complications using these biobanks will be presented. In addition, strategies to identify novel therapeutic targets using loss of function mutations that protect from a specific disease will be highlighted.

S9 Epidemiology and genetics 2 :
Diabetes and women
16:00~18:00 / Friday 7 October
Emerald Hall A, 3F
Chairman:Tae sun Park, Yeon Ah Sung
Overview
There is increasing evidence that sex and gender differences are important in epidemiology, pathophysiology, treatment, and outcomes in diabetes. Genetic background, lifestyle, and environment contribute to the pandemic increase of T2DM and its associated complications, presenting a challenge for healthcare systems. In this session, four speakers will deliver a lecture about the sex differences in diabetes and complications including cardiovascular disease, gestational diabetes, and infection in patients with diabetes. Therefore, this session will provide important but often unrecognized knowledge on sex and gender differences in T2DM, to increase awareness of all health professionals.

S17 Epidemiology and genetics 3 :
Recent update in the epidemiology of diabetes
13:30~15:30 / Saturday 8 October
Emerald Hall A, 3F
Chairman:Chang Beom Lee, Dae Jung Kim
Overview
Diabetes is a global public health problem that significantly impacts health care systems and patients' quality of life. In this session, four speakers with a volume of experience in diabetes epidemiology will focus on diabetes in youth diabetes, the future global diabetes prevalence, and the current status of diabetes in Korea. This session provides the latest updates on diabetes epidemiology.
